PBC is a chronic condition where the bile ducts in the liver are progressively destroyed. As these ducts deteriorate, bile (a fluid essential for digestion and vitamin absorption) accumulates in the liver, causing inflammation and scarring. This condition is also referred to as primary biliary cirrhosis.
Olic 10 contains Obeticholic acid, a medication belonging to the class of Farnesoid X receptor agonists. It is prescribed for adults to manage primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, either on its own or in combination with another medicine called ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA).
Olic 10 is not recommended for use in pregnant women, and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medication. It is also not advised for children and adolescents under 18 years of age and should be used cautiously in elderly individuals (aged 65 and older). Always consult your doctor before starting Olic 10.
Before beginning treatment with Olic 10, your doctor may recommend blood tests to evaluate your liver function and assess your current health condition. Common side effects of Olic 10 include stomach pain, fatigue, dizziness, constipation, dry skin, and a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Contact your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

Obeticholic Acid works by decreasing the production of bile in the liver and promoting the removal of bile from your liver
Olic 10 reduces the production and build-up of bile in the liver and also reduces the inflammation of the liver.
Obeticholic acid is an agonist for the Farnesoid X Receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor expressed in the liver and intestine. FXR plays a central role in regulating bile acid synthesis, inflammatory responses, fibrotic processes, and metabolic pathways. Upon FXR activation, the intracellular concentration of bile acids within hepatocytes decreases through:
These actions reduce the size of the circulating bile acid pool, promote bile flow (choleresis), and decrease hepatic bile acid exposure.
